

TYSO Conductor - Steve Bennett
Mr. Bennett received his Music Education degree from Harding University and continued his education at the University of Central Arkansas where he studied trombone with Dr. Dennis Winter and completed his Masters Degree in Instrumental Conducting.
While completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees he was a member of both the Harding and UCA concert band and orchestra, The Conway Civic Orchestra, and was the music director of the University of Central Arkansas summer musical. After his first year at UCA, Mr. Bennett was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from his professors.
He began his teaching career in the fall of 1995 in Montgomery, Alabama, where he helped start a band program at Alabama Christian Academy. During his five years there the band competed in many events throughout the school year and received numerous awards at local and state levels. He and his family moved to Texarkana during the summer of 2000 to take on his current position with the Texarkana Independent School District.
His teaching duties since moving to Texarkana include assistant band director at Pine Street and Texas Middle School, and assistant band director at Texas High School as well as the band director at Red Lick Middle School. His teaching duties also include orchestra director at Texas Middle School, and Texas High School. Mr. Bennett is also an adjunct instructor for Texarkana College and The University of Arkansas Hope/Texarkana teaching Applied Brass and Music Appreciation.
As a performer and conductor, Mr. Bennett has been a member of the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra as a trombonist when it premiered in 2006 and the director of the Texarkana Youth Symphony Orchestra since its second season in 2008.
